Frequently Asked Questions

If you cannot find the answer to your particular question or if you require additional information, you may click here to submit your questions.

Q: Do I need to have construction experience to go on a building trip?
A: No, all that is required is a willing heart and the desire to learn new things.  However, the work can be strenuous and you should be in moderately good condition or check with your doctor before you participate in this type of activity.

Q: Do I need to bring my own tools?
A: If you have any carpenter/framing or painting/drywall tools, you can view the basic tools that will be used.  Here is a list of tools from the Team Casa de Dios website.  If you don't have tools it is unnecessary to purchase them.  Dave Bowers from Team Casa de Dios has tools to borrow and we often borrow from church members who have gone on past trips.

Q: Do I need a passport to go to Mexico.
A: As of June 1st, 2009, US and Canadian citizens aged 16 and over who are entering the United States from Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean by land or sea are required to show a passport or alternative WHTI-compliant document such as a passport card or enhanced driver's license. Children up to the age of 15 may present proof of citizenship alone, such as a birth certificate, a consular report of birth abroad, a naturalization certificate, or a Canadian citizenship card. Full official rules can be found at US Department of State.

Q: What is the minimum age to participate?
A: All participants must be at least 15 years of age.  All persons 15-17 years old also require a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Q: Where will we be staying?
A:  We will be staying at The Hotel Bugambilias.  The hotel has comfortable accommodations with hot showers and air conditioned rooms.

Q: Are meals included in the cost?
A:  Saturday lunch will be provided for all team members.  Individuals are required to bring lunch on Friday.  The remaining meals can be purchased at local eateries and the cost is the responsibility of the individual.  There is a local taco eatery across from the hotel that is muy delicioso.

Q: How much money should I bring for food?
A:  $10-20 USD per person should suffice.  It is advised not to bring more for safety purposes.

Q: Is the food in Mexico safe to eat?
A:  Of the multiple trips we have taken, none of the team members have become ill.  However, it is advised that you do not drink the water.  CBC will provide water.  We recommend bringing your own water bottle to refill from the Igloo water coolers.

Q: What if it rains?
A: Due to the time constraints, we build rain or shine.  In the week prior to the trip, everyone will be notified if there is a chance of rain.  If so, rain gear and boots are highly recommended.

Q: What should I bring?
A: You may download a printable checklist that includes everything you will require.

Q:  Do I need auto insurance for Mexico if I drive?
A:  Yes, you should purchase auto insurance a few days prior to the trip. You may purchase insurance online here. Print out your receipt and we will collect them after the trip at a date to be announced for reimbursement.
